Most website projects start with how the site should look. The ones that pay for themselves start with what the site should do. Before choosing colours or fonts, agree on the jobs your website is hired to perform.
Job 1: Answer the first five questions in ten seconds
A visitor arriving from Google or a WhatsApp link wants to know: what you do, who it is for, where you operate, roughly what it costs, and how to reach you. If those answers are buried below a slider or spread across pages, many visitors leave before scrolling.
Write those five answers first, then design the home page around them.
Job 2: Prove you are real and reliable
Trust is built with specifics: a physical address, a working phone number, GST details, photos of your actual team and premises, and examples of real work. Generic stock images and vague claims do the opposite.
Job 3: Make the next step obvious
Every page needs one clear action, whether that is to call, send an enquiry or book a visit. Forms should ask only what you need for a first reply. Each extra field loses some visitors.
Add a click-to-call button and a WhatsApp link for mobile visitors, who are usually the majority.
Job 4: Be found for the searches that matter
Each service you offer deserves its own page with a clear title, a plain-language description and answers to common questions. This is what search engines index and what customers compare. A single "Services" page listing everything rarely ranks well.
Job 5: Tell you what is working
Connect analytics and enquiry tracking from day one, so you know which pages and campaigns produce calls and forms. A website without measurement is a brochure; with it, it becomes a sales channel you can improve every month.
Quick checklist
- Your services, location and contact details are visible without scrolling on a phone
- Every service has its own page with a unique title and description
- The enquiry form has five fields or fewer and sends you an instant notification
- Pages load in under three seconds on mobile data
- You can see how many enquiries the site produced last month
